The best French wines of 2019 for Wine Enthusiast

Wine Enthusiast magazine is an American wine journal that publishes information on wine and spirits, with reviews and articles on subjects peripheral to wine.

I only drew from this list the French wines (nom de diou !!), they are 16, 16 out of 100 it is little you will say, and in addition the Italians are in front of us with 17 wines selected and all this little world far behind the USA with 30 wines selected (there, I smell the advantage of playing at home).

The average price of the 100 wines selected is 30 € and the average rating of 93/100, it may seem expensive but here we should touch the top of the top.

So let's go for the 16 distinguished, the comments are only the translations that I could make, hoping not to have been too wrong ...

Domaine de la Janasse Châteauneuf-du-Pape Vieilles Vignes Rouge 2016.

Note : 99/100 Prix : 110 €

If you can find this wine somewhere, it seems to be sold out everywhere and prices must go up.

"Busty and intoxicating, it is a deliciously rich blend of Grenache, Syrah and Mourvèdre. The flavors of blackberry and sun-kissed black cherry are explosive on the palate, but it is an elegantly extracted and surprisingly charming wine bordered with nuances of violet, dried thyme and earth. The tannins are sweet, which makes it difficult to resist the appeal of youth, but aging will bring additional happiness. "

Château Cambon la Pelouse Haut-Médoc 2016.

Note : 93/100 Prix : 20 €

"This rich wine is built around generous tannins and aromas of black plum. A touch of dark chocolate provides depth and does not alter the delicious fruitiness. Drink in 2023."

Château Clos Haut-Peyraguey Sauternes 2016

Note : 94/100 Prix : 40 €

"Dominated by Sémillon, this rich and gourmet wine alternates ripe fruit flavors with intense concentration. Aging in barrels has supported the richness of the wine and has not overshadowed ripe honey, candied citrus zest and touch of almond. It will age for many years. Drink from 2025. "

Domaine Olga Raffault Chinon Les Picasses 2014

Note : 94/100 Prix : 28 €

"The chalky soil of the hills above the town of Chinon gives this organic wine its mineral texture, combined with flavors of fruit and spices. Aging in wooden barrels gives generous and ripe tannins, the flavors of black fruit have well aged. Now enjoy this good wine. "

Château d’Aqueria Tavel 2018

Note : 93/100 Prix : 15 €

"This dry and medium-bodied rosé offers intensely fresh and concentrated flavors of strawberry, raspberry and watermelon. It is juicy, invigorating and mineral. A blend of Grenache, Clairette, Cinsault and Mourvèdre, it is a structured and mordant wine. which will gain in depth and complexity until 2022 and will be served well in the coldest months with game or poultry. "

Château Peyros Madiran Vieilles Vignes 2015

Note : 93/100 Prix : 15 €

"This blend of 80% Tannat and 20% Cabernet Franc is dense and boldly structured. The firm tannins dominate the powerful flavor of black fruits, producing a wine that still needs more aging. Drink from 2022".

Domaine de la Pirolette Saint- Amour 2017

Note : 93/100 Prix : 15 €

"The 15 hectare vineyard is located on the hill of Saint-Amour, near the village church. It produced a juicy wine, full of ripe strawberry flavor and lively acidity. Scented and textured , this wine evolves but needs time. Drink from 2020 ".

Clos Triguedina Cahors Les Sélections Parcellaires Les Galets 2014

Note : 95/100 Prix : 50 €

Apparently, very difficult to find, prices are surely going up.

"It is a beautifully structured wine, perfumed by aging in barrels and the flavor of black plum. It is fueled by concentrated tannins and dynamic and juicy fruit. This bottling is part of a trilogy of wines from different terraces of the vineyard, this coming from the third terrace above the river. Drink from 2021 ".

Marc Kreydenweiss Andlau Riesling 2017 Note : 93/100 Prix : 22 €

"The citrus essence first appears on the nose of this wine before the peach flavor intervenes. The mouth surprises with its citrus concentration and minerality. The wine needs a few more months to flourish but is promised a bright future with its intense citrus freshness. Drink now - 2030 ".

Moët & Chandon Champagne Grand Vintage Brut 2012

Note : 94/100 Prix : 54 €

"Balanced, this Champagne combines richness and freshness, fruity and minerality. It is still a young wine with an acidity felt through the texture. It will age impressively, ready to drink from 2022".

Léon Beyer Gewurztraminer 2017

Note : 92/100 Prix : 20 €

"Ripe pear, fresh peach and Amalfi lemon plus a hint of Damask rose on the nose of this wine. The palate is juicy, light, dry and lemony, with peach in the background. The finish is dry, lemony and refreshing ".

Domaine Jessiaume Beaune Premier Cru Les Cents Vignes 2017

Note : 93/100 Prix : 50 €

Difficult to find, prices will surely rise.

"One of the biggest leading raw at the northeast end of the vineyards of Beaune, Les Cent Vignes is also one of the best known. The ripe fruit, juicy and generous of this wine is a good reason for it. With spices from aging in wooden barrels, the wine is immediately attractive while being likely to age well. Drink from 2022 ".

E. Guigal Gigondas 2015

Note : 92/100 Prix : 20 €

"The bold flavors of black cherry and blackberry are anchored on an invigorating granite skeleton in this bold but elegant red. It is lush and silky on the palate, enhanced by light tannins and sunny acidity, earthy vitality and complexity should hold well until 2025 ".

Château d’Anglès La Clape Classique Syrah-Grenache-Mourvèdre 2017

Note : 91/100 Prix : 15 €

"This wine offers initial scents of iris and African violet associated with dense fruit notes of black raspberry, Boysenberry and plum. Notes of leathery spices, freshly plowed earth and garrigue oil also develop over time. The palate is smooth at first, but then reveals a complex interaction between structured tannins, bold black fruit flavors and ample acidity. The finish is long and evolutionary, with nice astringency similar to tea and peppery spices ".

Commanderie de la Bargemone Coteaux d’Aix-en-Provence Rosé 2018

Note : 91/100 Prix : 12 €

"This rich and structured wine, with its high proportion of Cabernet Sauvignon, is ripe and fruity. It has a great taste of orange peel and the freshness of red fruit, ending with a warm and full finish. Drink now ".

Domaine Anthony & David Girard Sancerre Les Monts Damnés 2018

Note : 91/100 Prix : 20 €

"A light touch of spices from the partial fermentation in wooden barrels added to the richness of this wine. The fermentation in tanks counterbalanced by bringing acidity and minerality. This wine is almost ready but will be better from the beginning of 2020" .
